Director ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana visits KVK Ganderbal
Appreciated efforts of KVK in carrying out its mandated activities religiously
Dr. Parvender Shearon, Director Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) Ludhiana visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal on 3rd August 2023. He was accompanied by Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST- K.
At the outset Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal heartily welcomed Dr. Shearon on his maiden visit to the KVK. Director ATARI and other officials had a comprehensive visit of the KVK Farm and inspected all the units like high density horticulture, crop fields, dairy unit, poultry unit, walnut propagation unit, hi-tech polyhouses, horti-poultry unit and fish pond. On the occasion, the worthy Director ATARI inaugurated the first apple harvest of the season. Later on, he visited the Administrative Block, Farmers Hostel and laboratories of the KVK. This was followed by a comprehensive Interaction Session with Scientists, Supporting Staff and Field Staff. In his address, Dr. Parvender Sheoran expressed satisfaction about KVK farm activities and appreciated efforts of KVK team under guidance of Director Extension & Senior Scientist & Head Dr. Ishfaq Abidi. He suggested that KVK should replicate Horti-poultry model and other components of IFS at farmers’ field. He also stressed on uploading the day-to-day activities on the KVK portal and documentation of activities to improve ranking of the KVK.
Director Extension SKUAST-K, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi emphasized the activities of the KVK and its achievements especially with regard to the massive development of the KVK farm over the past one year. Prof. Makhdoomi appreciated the efforts of the KVK team in technology demonstration and dissemination among the farmers.
Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist KVK Ganderbal thanked the Director ATARI for visiting the Kendra and appraised him regarding the relentless work being done by the KVK in reaching out to nook and corner of the District. He emphasised that currently the KVK focusses on outcome based skill and entrepreneurship development, high density plantation, fodder resource development, nutrition of women & children, organic farming, climate resilient agriculture, drone technology, FPOs and SHGs. Dr. Abidi further appraised Director ATARI regarding the various constraints faced by the KVK team and requested for funds for infrastructure development of residential building and farmers hostel and setting up of mushroom unit, packaging unit and Sheep & Goat Unit.
